About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Join Breman Museum Artist in Residence and 5th generation Atlantan Joel Silverman for an afternoon searching for traces of the long-demolished institutions of Atlanta’s historic Jewish downtown. This community of immigrants was one of Atlanta’s earliest integrated neighborhoods. Summerhill thrived from 1850-1950 along Washington Street, Capitol Avenue, and Pryor Street before the interstate highway was built over it, followed by the Braves and Olympic Stadiums. We will see the previous locations of The Temple, Shearith Israel, and Or Veshalom, the home site of Leo Frank, and the legendary “second base” of Braves Stadium that everybody’s Bubbie claimed was their address back when they lived on “the Southside”.

Meet at the Summerhill A Lot, 521 Capitol Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30312, directly across from Hot Dog Pete’s.

This walk is a 2.5 mile loop and will take two hours.
