What proof of residency will be accepted?

Upon arrival, have your identification ready to prove you are a District resident. Proof of DC residency is needed to enter the event. If you don't have a DC driver's license, have a photo ID issued by another state plus a current utility bill with your District of Columbia address listed on it.

Where else can I dispose of/recycle paint?

Old paint and paint products can be recycled at seven participating PaintCare stores in the District. Participating stores also accept stains, sealers, shellac, and varnish Find the closest drop-off location and additional information here: paintcare.org/drop-off-sites/

Where else can I recycle batteries?

Recycle your batteries at retail stores in the District through Call2Recycle. The Call2Recycle program accepts rechargeable batteries, alkaline batteries, e-bike batteries, and cell phones. Find your closest location at: https://www.call2recycle.org/locator/.

Where else can I recycle electronics?

DC's Department of Energy and the Environment hosts regular electronics recycling events across the District. More information including accepted items, dates, and locations can be found here: https://doee.dc.gov/ecycle. Please email productstewardship@dc.gov with questions.

Where else can I shred secure documents?

Many non-profits host shredding events; search "shredding events near me" in Google to find future events. For a small fee, print stores like Fedex offer secure document shredding. If you have a shredder at home, recycle the shredded material by placing it in a paper bag, staple it shut, and recycle

What if I miss my 15-minute Arrival Slot?

Please plan and arrive during your 15-minute arrival slot. If you miss your arrival slot and no others are available on the Eventbrite page, we will try to accommodate you; however, there may be a delay as we manage traffic. No entry will be allowed before 8:00am or after 2:00 pm.

Can I walk or bike to the event?

Yes; you do not need a car to participate in the Special Waste Collection Event. If you walk or bike, please identify a DPW employee at the entrance and check-in. For safety, do not walk across the parking lot in front of cars.

Is pre-registration required?

Yes, please. Pre-registering makes for a safer and more orderly event because it helps your DPW team manage traffic flow and prevents the entry line from becoming too long. Pre-registering also helps us plan for the number of people needed to staff the event.

Can I register for multiple slots if I plan to come only once during the event?

Please select only one ticket per vehicle per day. Selecting multiple tickets reduces the time slots available for another person or family.

What if there is a long line at the gate?

When you arrive, please join the end of the line. For safety, if the line is longer, you may need to drive around the block to do so. Never block an intersection or merging lane to join a line, drive around the block to join the end of the line if necesary. Please do not cut in line.

What if I have a question?

You may email the Office of Waste Diversion at zero.waste@dc.gov.
