Join us for the DC Department of Public Works (DPW) Special Waste Collection Events! It's your chance to safely dispose of or recycle household hazardous waste, electronics, and secure documents.

To accommodate everyone safely and promptly, DPW now requires registration to participate in the Special Waste Collection Events.
Sign up below for a 15-minute arrival slot. You can arrive anytime during the 15 minutes. Join the line when you arrive. Entry begins at 8:00 a.m., and the gate closes at 2:00 p.m. Please note that your arrival slot is not a reservation or an appointment; your timed arrival slot helps the DPW team maintain a steady flow of attendees and a safer event.
Only one ticket is required per vehicle.
Open to DC residents only. Please bring proof of residency (e.g., driver's license, utility bill, lease agreement) and the Eventbrite registration. Have your ID and registration ready upon arrival. A DC resident must be present in every vehicle that arrives.

Safety Tips
- Have your ID and Eventbrite registration ready upon arrival.
- Join the line when you arrive and remain in your vehicle at all times
- Remove personal items from your trunk when dropping off special waste.
- Follow the instructions from all DPW crew members.
- Put away electronic devices to avoid distractions while driving.

Upon arrival, have your identification ready to prove you are a District resident. Proof of DC residency is needed to enter the event. If you don't have a DC driver's license, have a photo ID issued by another state plus a current utility bill with your District of Columbia address listed on it.
Old paint and paint products can be recycled at seven participating PaintCare stores in the District. Participating stores also accept stains, sealers, shellac, and varnish Find the closest drop-off location and additional information here: paintcare.org/drop-off-sites/

Many non-profits host shredding events; search "shredding events near me" in Google to find future events. For a small fee, print stores like Fedex offer secure document shredding. If you have a shredder at home, recycle the shredded material by placing it in a paper bag, staple it shut, and recycle
Please plan and arrive during your 15-minute arrival slot. If you miss your arrival slot and no others are available on the Eventbrite page, we will try to accommodate you; however, there may be a delay as we manage traffic. No entry will be allowed before 8:00am or after 2:00 pm.
Yes; you do not need a car to participate in the Special Waste Collection Event. If you walk or bike, please identify a DPW employee at the entrance and check-in. For safety, do not walk across the parking lot in front of cars.
Yes, please. Pre-registering makes for a safer and more orderly event because it helps your DPW team manage traffic flow and prevents the entry line from becoming too long. Pre-registering also helps us plan for the number of people needed to staff the event.
Please select only one ticket per vehicle per day. Selecting multiple tickets reduces the time slots available for another person or family.
When you arrive, please join the end of the line. For safety, if the line is longer, you may need to drive around the block to do so. Never block an intersection or merging lane to join a line, drive around the block to join the end of the line if necesary. Please do not cut in line.
